From culture to coastlines to city sights and sand dunes, the Middle East brings together a whole host of contrasts and experiences. You’ll find modern skyscrapers alongside ancient mosques, and traditional souks just minutes from luxury shopping malls – all set against a backdrop of beautiful beaches and desert landscapes. Whether you’re enjoying the buzz of Dubai or Abu Dhabi, soaking up the charm of Muscat or marvelling at the region’s rugged desert landscapes, there is no shortage of things to experience and enjoy. The Middle East is also an ideal stopover if you’re heading to the Indian Ocean, Far East or Australia with a chance to break up the journey with a few days of sunshine, sightseeing and luxury.
Top destinations in the Middle East to visit:
The UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi offers a blend of cultural hotspots alongside peaceful beaches and fine dining. In contrast, Dubai is the epitome of modern glitz, with towering skyscrapers, massive shopping malls and glamourous hotels. For a change of scene, Ras Al Khaimah offers a quieter escape with stunning beaches, desert adventures, and the rugged backdrop of the Hajar Mountains. The oasis city of Al Ain also offers a slower pace, with UNESCO World Heritage sites and sweeping desert views. Cross into Oman and you’ll find yourself immersed in Muscat’s historic charm and coastal calm with mosques, rugged cliffs, and atmospheric souqs. Head inland to Nizwa for a glimpse into traditional Omani life or enjoy the cool mountain air in Jebel Akhdar with walking trails, terraced farms, and remote villages. Ultimately, the choice is yours and our experts can help you decide which destinations will suit you best.
Best time of year to visit?
The best time to visit the Middle East is usually from October to April, when the weather is warm but comfortable. It’s ideal for days at the beach, exploring cities, or heading into the desert. December to March is the peak season with lots going on, especially in some of the bigger cities such as Dubai, Muscat and Abu Dhabi. If you’d prefer things when they’re a little quieter, but still want to enjoy the sunshine, the shoulder months of October, November and April are a great option – and you’ll still get good weather. While the summer months (May to September) can be extremely hot, especially inland, everywhere is very well air-conditioned – so if you’re planning a hotel-based break or a short stopover, it’s still perfectly doable, but probably not ideal.
What’s the food like?
Food in the Middle East is full of flavour with lots of spices and fresh ingredients. Dishes are often seasoned with cumin, coriander, and saffron, and you’ll often see stews, grilled meats, and rice on the menu. Pita bread and dips such as hummus and baba ganoush are also popular. While you’ll definitely get a taste of these authentic flavours in souks and local restaurants, hotel restaurants tend to offer a mix of traditional Middle Eastern dishes alongside more international options, catering to all tastes. So whether you’re wandering around a souk or dining at a luxury hotel, you’ll always find something delicious to eat!

I’ve now lost count of the trips I’ve booked with Gavin at e-shores and how he always manages to know exactly what we like and gets a great price - always the same or less than I research myself. Our latest was Greek island hopping to Mykonos, Paros, Naxos and Santorini and the hotels Gavin booked were all outstanding and the typically small, boutique hotels with less crowds. We went out of season (1st - 13th Sept) and everything went smoothly from the airport transfers, the welcome we had at each hotel and the beauty of each island having its own magic. Looking forward to the next trip already booked through Gavin in November! Thank you everyone-shores - the Napiers!

Claire Smith offered invaluable support in arranging our travel by air to Portugal pluse trains around the country, offering a choice of three hotels in every stop. She expanded our initial thoughts of Lisbon and Porto to include fantastic destinations that we would not have thought of - Guimaraes, Aveiro and Sintra. And she suggested tours we might enjoy. She listened. She selected hotels on the basis of what we told her we would like, from the feel of them to their location and the facilities they had. She was on the end of the phone when I needed her and made me feel there would be help at the end of the phone in an emergency abroad. We're looking forward to our getaway, secure in the knowledge it has been tailor maide to our requirements.

As always, fantastic service from Rob at eShores. He responded quickly to any requests and provided excellent support throughout the booking process. This is the second trip we’ve booked with him, and we’ve even recommended him to family members who are now also booking their holidays with Rob. Highly recommended

Our travel consultant, whom we have worked with for a few trips now, was given a wide ranging, complex and extensive overseas tour itinerary to quote for my wife and I. Not only did she return the quote within a matter of days but it was an amazing price and the hotels of our choice were mainly booked. The administration backed up the agreed quote with all relevant documents and we paid the deposit. All was done with the utmost efficiency, accuracy and speed. Wiil be back!!
