The Middle East offers a wealth of experiences for every type of traveller. In Abu Dhabi you can visit the spectacular Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, explore cultural hotspots and enjoy fine dining after a day on the beach. Dubai is all about modern marvels, from the towering Burj Khalifa to vast shopping malls and vibrant nightlife. Ras Al Khaimah provides a quieter escape, with desert adventures, zip lines and the rugged Hajar Mountains as a backdrop. The oasis city of Al Ain is rich in history, with UNESCO World Heritage sites and sweeping desert views. In Oman, Muscat combines coastal calm with historic souqs and mosques, while Nizwa offers a glimpse of traditional life. The Middle East is best visited between October and April, when the weather is warm and sunny but not too hot for sightseeing. Summer months can see very high temperatures, making outdoor exploration less comfortable, though resorts and hotels are well equipped with pools and air conditioning. For a mix of pleasant city touring and beach relaxation, winter and spring are ideal.
Food in the Middle East is full of flavour with lots of spices and fresh ingredients, and you’ll often see stews and grilled meats on the menu. Pita bread and dips such as hummus and baba ghanoush are also popular. While you’ll definitely get a taste of these authentic flavours in souks and local restaurants, hotels tend to offer a mix of traditional Middle Eastern dishes alongside more international options.
