The Best South Africa Multi Centre Holiday

12/10/2016

With our South Africa Multi Centre Holidays you really can combine the very best of South Africa in only two weeks.  As well as cosmopolitan Cape Town, big-game watching on Safari and a relaxed road trip along the Garden Route, you’ll have time to enjoy breathtaking beaches and the stunning Winelands too. The exchange rate is considerably favourable for us at the moment, at almost 20 Rand to the pound you can really enjoy your holiday, choosing great places to stay and incredible restaurants along the way.

First up, fly to Cape Town, Africa’s most attractive city and as it’s only two hours time-difference you won’t have any jet lag to contend with.  Take time to explore this fantastic city; get a cable car up to the top of Table Mountain for incredible views, visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned during apartheid and enjoy some of the outstanding cuisine the area is renowned for – check out our blog on Cape Town’s Best Restaurants for the low down on where to eat for the best views and great food.

After a few days in the City, head out to The Winelands, a short and easy journey of around an hour and a half from Cape Town, here you can explore the famous vineyards of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek.  The scenery along the route is quite mountainous with the vineyards covering the gently sloping valleys.  Stay a couple of nights in Franschhoek (Afrikaans for ‘French Corner’) which was founded in 1688 by the Huguenots who bought their wine making knowledge with them.  The town is also complete with galleries and boutiques which are perfect for browsing. The dining options in the Winelands are incredible, with a huge array of world-class restaurants - make sure you make your reservations well in advance though.  The Wine Train is a great way of getting around the area so you can relax and enjoy sampling the region’s produce without having to worry about driving!

After the Winelands head to Hermanus.  This is the place for water wildlife and is recognized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as one of the best whale watching destinations in the world.  The best time to enjoy whale watching is from September to November, but you might still be in luck in July and August too.  But it’s not all about whales, there’s plenty of other wildlife to spot from penguins to seals and dolphins - and for the brave, there’s also shark diving too!

Next up, take the famous Garden Route towards Knysna.  The Garden Route is a stretch of coastline, about 180 miles long, which is one of the most scenic areas of the country.  There is some development along the way but there are still miles of white sandy beaches, verdant hillsides and indigenous forests making it one of the loveliest long-distance drives in the world.

Knysna is in the centre of the Garden Route and is the best place to base yourself if you don’t want to be moving on every day. Lying on the shore of a warm-water lagoon, there are some nice walking and trekking trails and it is famous for its’ delicious oysters and fresh seafood.  From here it’s easy to get to Plettenberg Bay for a daytrip.  Perched on a cliff over a sweeping bay populated with dolphins, ‘Plet’ is a playground for South Africa’s wealthy so there are lots of activities as well as great restaurants.  Another day trip from Knysna is Mossel Bay, the town is surrounded by beaches and is a water sport’s paradise.

Then head on towards Port Elizabeth and less than an hour’s drive away is the Shamwari Game Reserve.  Not only is Shamwari one of the best game reserves in the country for the must-see Big Five; Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Buffalo, but as it’s located in the Eastern Cape has the benefit of being malaria free.  The 5-star luxurious accommodation and exciting safari activities will be a fantastic and memorable end to your two weeks in South Africa.
