Itinerary

1 Night Johannesburg
3 Nights Kruger
1 Night Port Elizabeth (optional)
3 Nights Knysna
2 Nights Hermanus
3 Nights Winelands
4 Nights Cape Town

✈  UK – Johannesburg (1 Night):You’ll fly direct from the UK to Johannesburg, where your 1 night will serve as a stopover before reaching Kruger’s game reserve. You can spend it relaxing in your hotel, but it’s well worth venturing out for the city’s “Big Apple” feel, buzzing or hipster neighbourhoods, graffiti street art and fantastic restaurants.

✈ Johannesburg – Kruger (3 Nights):We will then transfer you back to the airport for a short flight Mpumalanga, meeting you at the other side to transfer you to your lodge in the Kruger National Park. You can also opt to do this journey by road, taking in the Panorama Route and seeing sights such as Bourkes Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon and Gods Window. We do recommend a night en-route if you’re opting for the drive, but it’s definitely worth considering.

The grasslands of this vast game reserve are home to the Big Five (elephants, black and white rhinoceros, leopards and lions), 519 bird species, panoramic horizons, plus all the fresh air in the world. Watch zebra and wildebeest grazing in the wild, get up close to baby elephants and really immerse yourself in the safari atmosphere. Accommodation-wise, there’s everything from luxury lodges to budget-friendly camps.

✈ Kruger – Port Elizabeth (1 Night Optional): You’ll next head to Port Elizabeth, which you’ll reach via a return flight to Johannesburg and onwards plane. You’ll then pick up your car rental and head out on one of the world’s most famous drives – The Garden Route. Before you do though, you do have the option to stay in this laid back town, with its blue-flag sandy beaches, seafront necklace stands and Beachfront Craft Market, Port Elizabeth has all the charm in the world. Penguin colonies at St Croix Island are adorable, Sardinia Bay has romantic sunsets and there’s even a boardwalk casino and entertainment complex.

🚗 Port Elizabeth – Knysna (3 Nights): Driving through national parks, quaint beach towns and indigenous forests, will bring you to the calm lakes and golden coastlines of Knysna in the Western Cape. You’ll have 3 nights here to explore the Garden Route’s parklands and trails, picturesque streets, boutiques and Brenton-on-Sea or Buffalo Bay beaches. The backdrop here takes in sparkling Indian Ocean waters, plus the stunning Outeniqua Mountains. Hike forests, immerse yourself in lagoons, picnic on sands and try the local oysters along Knysna Waterfront.

🚗 Knysna – Hermanus (2 Nights): Staying on the Western Cape for some whale watching, you’ll now drive to the sleepy seaside town of Hermanus. With Voeklip Beach, Klipgat Cave and prime whale-spotting views along Cliff Path Walk, Hermanus also has terraced wineries, farmers markets, a big cat sanctuary, plus lovely galleries, restaurants and small shops. You’ll have 2 nights here.

🚗 Hermanus – Winelands (3 Nights): With sweeping horizons and viewpoints along the way, your drive will now take you deep into the Winelands for 3 nights of relaxation in beautiful surroundings. This historic part of South Africa is home to rolling green vineyards, picturesque meadows and beautiful Dutch colonial buildings.

You’re here to sample the region, though. With everything from boutique wineries to ancient or modern estates, the Winelands harvest grapes for fabulous wines and fresh produce (for fabulous cuisine). Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are the most popular, but you can pick whichever you want for a glass of the finest while catching those final sunset rays.

🚗 Winelands – Cape Town (4 Nights): After the Winelands you will have a short drive to Cape Town where you will spend your last 4 nights. Whether you’re looking to simply relax, after exciting nightlife, see amazing wildlife or take part in adventure sports – Cape Town has it all. The scenery is stunning, a trendy city and harbour, with the spectacular Table Mountain acting as a back drop, with a vast array of breath-taking beaches and bays dotting the coast. Fantastic cuisine and wonderful wines await you in every restaurant. There’s a huge diversity of animals – make sure you go to see the penguins on the Cape Peninsula – they’re a must! For a bit of retail therapy there are designer shops at the V&A waterfront, various smaller boutiques in the city bowl, as well as craft markets throughout the city. If adventure sports is your thing then there are just too many to name, but a firm favourite is shark diving. For culture, a boat trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated is highly recommended.

✈Cape Town – UK: Finally when your stay in Cape Town comes to an end, you’ll drive back to the airport for your flight home.
