✈️ UK – Kuala Lumpur or Singapore (Optional 2–3 nights): Begin your journey with a direct flight to either Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur, or vibrant Singapore. If you wish, spend a couple of nights exploring before continuing on to Borneo. Both cities offer a fascinating mix of cultures, from ornate temples and futuristic skyscrapers to bustling night markets and incredible street food. It’s the perfect introduction to Southeast Asia.
✈️ Kuala Lumpur – Kuching (4 nights): Fly onwards to Kuching, the gateway to Malaysian Borneo. Here, you can base yourself in the colourful riverside city which is rich in colonial heritage, temples and museums. Alternatively, you have the option to stay amid nature in the Permai Rainforest. Visit nearby orangutan sanctuaries, take a guided trek through lush jungle, or meet the indigenous Iban people in their traditional longhouse communities. Keep your eyes peeled for proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and even Irrawaddy dolphins along the coast. Kuching offers the ideal balance of culture and wildlife in one captivating region.
✈️ Kuching – Gunung Mulu (3 nights): Continue your adventure with a short flight to Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its dramatic limestone pinnacles and vast cave systems. Explore the park on guided walks, river cruises and canopy bridges, each revealing another side of Borneo’s untouched beauty. Inside the caves, you’ll encounter glistening rock formations, hidden chambers, and one of the world’s largest bat colonies – an unforgettable natural spectacle.
✈️ Gunung Mulu – Kota Kinabalu (7 nights): Your final stop is the coastal city of Kota Kinabalu, where jungle-covered mountains meet the turquoise waters of the South China Sea. Spend your week unwinding on white sandy beaches, snorkelling over coral reefs, or exploring nearby islands within Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. You can also take a trip to Kinabalu National Park, home to Malaysia’s highest peak and rich biodiversity. After your adventures inland, this is the perfect place to relax and reflect.
