Sint Maarten is all about sun, sea and laid-back Caribbean vibe – with a strong hint of its Dutch influence. It is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and makes up the southern part of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin (the northern half is the French collectivity of Saint-Martin).

The beaches here are white and sandy and one of the most popular beaches on the Dutch side of the island with both tourists and locals is the stunning Mullet Bay, whose beautifully clear azure waters and powdery white sand are a little piece of paradise. This beach is also popular with surfers. Mullet Bay is located near to the island’s most famous attraction – Maho Beach – where crowds gather to watch the very low flying jumbo jets that come into land on the airport runway just off the shore making it feel like planes are almost skimming the top of your head! Visitors flock here to experience this unusual (and slightly unnerving) experience – this is a must-see!

The island of St Martin itself (encompassing the Dutch and French side) is 36 square miles and has 37 stunning beaches in total, all offering something a little different. Whether you are looking for somewhere with a little bit of Atlantic breeze to practise some windsurfing or water-sports or whether you prefer to relax in the sunshine on a more secluded stretch of white powdery sand, there is something for everyone.

St Maarten’s location in the north east of the Caribbean means that it enjoys a fairly consistent temperature of about 25 degrees all year round. Peak time to visit is between December to May when there are fewer risks of hurricanes.

The food on the Dutch side of the island is delicious – most restaurants making the most of the wonderfully fresh seafood that can be caught off the island’s shores. There are accommodation options for all requirements and the island has many luxury resorts for those looking for a bit of pampering and also more modest hotels that offer great value for money. Just give us a call to discuss your requirements.
