Description

The main beach resort is Hulope Bay. This beach was named ‘Best Beach’ in America in 1997, and it’s not hard to see why. Its amazing tidal pools on the east side are carved from volcanic rock, and as it’s a protected area visitors are asked to leave every shell and stone in its place, which helps to preserve the beauty of the beach, meaning it still looks as perfect as it did when it won its title. The site is full of marine life too, in the summer the bay is frequently visited by spinner dolphins whereas in the winter it is a perfect place to spot humpback whales.

Lanai City is located up in the highlands of the island, making it slightly cooler than Hulope Bay. All of the restaurants and bars are located on Dole Park, a grassy area popular with the locals. There are also many unique shops near the park, favourites include local Hawaiian jewellery stores, small boutiques and art shops showcasing local artists.

For getting out an exploring the island, the 4-wheel adventures should be top of your list, you can take in the islands impressive landscapes and visit some of the remote beaches. You can also hike the magical lunar landscapes of Keahiakawelo, kayak around the legendary Puu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock) or stand in owe of the shipwreck at Kaiolohia.
