Hermanus is famous for being the best destination for land-based whale watching. This has transformed the town from a sleepy fishing village, in to a bustling seaside town, with a wide range of hotels, shops and restaurants on offer. It also boasts spectacular views, winding cliffs, lush mountains and deep dark seas.

Description

Southern right wales are common in the Walker Bay area but you can also spot some killer whales if you are lucky. The town is also home to the Whale House Museum where you can learn all about these fabulous animals. The town even has a whale-crier, a man who walks through the town announcing that whales are in the bay – so you will never miss them!

If you’re brave enough, you can also take part in a once in a lifetime activity – shark diving! Dryer Island is full of sharks for you to swim with, just climb in the cage and come face to face with a great white! Those who are less willing to face their fears can relax on the boat and keep an eye out for breaching sharks!

Hermanus also has a variety of other activities that you can take part in, from wine tasting and hiking to relaxing on a beach, there is so much choice! Start your day at Hemel-En-Aarde wine route to sample wine in stunning locations. Then head to Fernkloof Nature reserve for a relaxing hike and finally finish your day with a sunset picnic a Kammabaai beach, also known as Lovers Cove.
