Bali and Lombok Holidays On average Bali is split into two main seasons October to March is the rainy season with an average of 223mm of rain. For the best weather June to September would be ideal with an average temp of 26c rising into its 30’s. The hottest season in Lombok begins in May to October and can reach well into its 30’s. Many people describe the wet season as the monsoon season purely because of how windy it is. Unlike Bali, the weather in Lombok doesn’t really change because of its position near the equator therefore there isn’t really a bad time to go to Lombok. Although the tourist season is from May to September There is so much to do in Bali, be it relaxing on the many beaches, or indulging in the many activities available such as shopping, sightseeing or water sports. Similar to Bali, Lombok has an array of activities to do during the day such as Snorkelling, Glass Bottom boat trips, diving and Shopping. Bali has a buzzing night life, with many pubs, clubs (often with live bands) and fabulous restaurants. It must be noted that Bali’s night life doesn’t start until around midnight so it is best to plan your night from around 10:30 onwards. Lombok has a good night life with many bands, late night shopping centres, and many bars with live bands in the Senggigi area. • Kintamani Volcano Tour- Visit mount batur and walk across the crater of the still active Volcano. • Temples- Visit the temples such as Tirta Empul, Taman Ayun Temple and the Famous “Mother Temple” thought to be the most holy and largest Hindu temple. • Monkey Forest- Visit the monkey forest near sangeh and tinah lot. See the view of Bali’s west coast. • Visit the many museums such as Jalan Letkol Wisnu for the museum of archaeology. • Bali also offers a variety of cruises be it day cruises around Bali’s south-east coast. Dinner Cruises or Island Cruises around the Lesser Sunda Islands. • Submarine Safari – See the Wildlife of the Indian Ocean from a 36 man Submarine. Bali Annual arts festival – every second Saturday of June to the second Saturday or July Ubud Writers and Readers Festival – Last week in September Lombok Male'an Sampi Festival annual festival held in April. Both Bali and Lombok serve a variety of Indonesian, Western and Chinese food. Balinese food is very spicy and not often prepared for Tourists. Stone Tools were discovered in the village of Cekik from around 3000bc. Bali is strongly influenced by Indian culture and Sanskrit. There are a small minority of Balinese Hindus. The Hindu Majapahit Empire on eastern Java founded a Balinese colony in 1343. In the 15th century when the empire weakened many Java natives a large number being intellectual’s artists and musicians migrated to Bali. The first European contact came in 1597 with the Dutch trying to create a strong hold over the Sunda Islands. Since then other countries have occupied Bali including Japan in the Second World War. Over the past 100 years there have been power struggles between the Dutch and Indonesia in 1950 Bali officially became part of the Republic of Indonesia after Renouncing the Netherlands. Lombok has also been occupied by the Netherlands. They first settled in the eastern part in 1674. The Western part of the Island was occupied by the Balinese Hindu Majapahit Empire. Bali is 153 km wide and 112 km north to south. The highest point is Mount Agung at 3,142 m (10,308 feet) high, an active volcano that last erupted in March 1963. Mountains cover the eastern side of Bali Mount Batur is also an active volcano which caused a catastrophic destruction around 30,000 years ago. Thought to be the largest known to man. Lombok is around 4,725 km˛ and its highest point is Mount Rinjani 3,726m – Mount Rinjani last erupted in July 1994 |
