✈️ UK – Bogotá (2 nights): Your journey begins with a flight to Colombia’s lively capital, set high in the Andes. Spend time exploring the historic La Candelaria district, with its colourful streets, colonial architecture and fascinating museums, or take a cable car up Monserrate for sweeping city views. Bogotá’s food scene and café culture are also well worth diving into.
✈️ Bogotá – Leticia / Amazon Rainforest (3 nights): Fly south to Leticia, on the edge of the Amazon where your Amazon adventure begins. On arrival in Leticia you’ll be met at the airport and introduced to the jungle at Parque Ecológico Mundo Amazónico. A visit to an indigenous maloca offers a powerful insight into the Amazonian worldview, with an Uitoto elder sharing ancestral knowledge before a traditional ritual seeking permission from Mother Jungle. As night falls, head out on a guided jungle walk to experience the sounds, scents and nocturnal life of the rainforest, before returning for a traditional Amazonian dinner and a restful night in eco-style treehouse accommodation at Nature Burú Hotel. The following day, travel by boat along the mighty Amazon River into Peru, reaching the remote Marasha Natural Reserve via jungle trail or canoe, depending on the season. Here, you’ll stay in rustic malocas and explore the surrounding lakes by canoe or kayak, with opportunities for wildlife spotting, artisanal fishing and an atmospheric night excursion where black caiman are sometimes seen. Your final day on the river includes boat journeys to Cacao Island, home to sloths, the Tarapoto Lakes, where pink river dolphins are often spotted, and the charming riverside town of Puerto Nariño, before settling in at Biohotel Arara. After breakfast the next morning, there’s time to relax before a land transfer back to the airport for your onward journey.
✈️ Leticia – Medellín (3 nights): Next, fly to Medellín, Colombia’s most innovative city. Discover how it has transformed in recent years, explore neighbourhoods by cable car and enjoy its laid-back café culture. A day trip takes you into the surrounding countryside to visit a traditional coffee farm, followed by another excursion to colourful Guatapé, famous for its giant rock and vibrant streets – this is one of our favourite places in South America!
✈️ Medellín – Santa Marta (5 nights): Fly north to the Caribbean coast for a change of pace. Santa Marta is the gateway to some of Colombia’s best beaches and natural scenery. Relax along the coast or venture into Tayrona National Park, where jungle trails lead to palm-fringed beaches backed by turquoise seas.
🚗 Santa Marta – Cartagena (3 nights): Travel overland to Cartagena, finishing your adventure in one of South America’s most atmospheric cities. Wander the walled old town, soak up the colonial charm and enjoy sunset drinks overlooking the Caribbean. A boat trip out to the nearby Rosario Islands offers one last taste of white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.
✈️ Cartagena – UK: Fly home from Cartagena after an unforgettable journey through Colombia’s cities, rainforest and coastline.
