The main towns of Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia perch along the caldera’s rim, and walking between them (even part of the way) makes for an unforgettable day of scenic viewpoints and picturesque lanes. End one evening in Oia to watch its famous sunset, a truly magical experience.

Chania, with its Venetian harbour, narrow streets and waterfront tavernas, is another highlight that perfectly captures Crete’s charm.
