To experience a real sense of life ‘down under’ visit Perth in Western Australia. Relaxed, easy-going and with none of the usual busy city hubbub, Perth truly embraces the great outdoors with its sun, sea and surf lifestyle. It also boasts the accolade of being Australia’s sunniest state. But when the sun sets, Perth transforms itself into a vibrant party town with its buzzing nightlife scene.

Description

Sitting on the banks of the Swan River and in between the Indian Ocean and Darling Range, Perth has a fabulous choice of beaches. Try some surfing at the stunning Cottesloe Beach with its clear blue waters and beautiful terraced lawns leading down to the beach, or chill out at the family friendly City Beach. Alternatively, try the popular Port Beach with views across to Rottnest Island.

A great way to see the city and learn about its history is to hop on a guided Segway Tour and zoom your way around Perth’s streets or take a leisurely boat cruise along the majestic Swan River.

When staying in Perth, Rottnest Island makes a great day trip destination. Just a short ferry ride will take you to this unspoilt island where vehicles are not permitted (the usual mode of transport is bike) which is teeming with wildlife and marine life. You will probably come across Rottnest’s most famous inhabitant, the quokka which is a marsupial about the size of a hare or cat and if you visit between September and November you may catch sight of the humpback whale on their annual migration.

One of Perth’s highlights is Kings Park and Botanic Garden which spans over 400 acres overlooking the Swan River and Darling Range. A great time to visit is in September when, for the entire month, the Kings Park Festival is run and the park is filled with wildflowers, live music and family activities.
