Description

Port Elizabeth is located at the end of the Garden Route, and has many stunning beaches, such as Kings Beach and Hobie Beach. A popular attraction here is Route 67, a walking trail comprising of 67 public artworks symbolising 67 years of Nelson Mandela’s dedication to the freedom of South Africa. The artwork is a celebration of South African culture and is a must see.

East London also offers amazing stretches of white sandy beaches. Nahoon Reef is the ultimate place for surfers and is home to international surfing competitions. There are also many attractions for all the family such as the East London Zoo and East London Museum.

Getting out of the cities is where you can really discover this region. There are many game reserves, but the Addo Elephant park is a nice place to start, it is home to 170 elephants and many other animals such as the very scarce Kenyan Black Rhino. There are many hiking trails and coastal tracks, where you can take in the sheer beauty of this stunning province. Adventure abounds too, with everything from rock-climbing to river rafting, you can even jump the world’s highest bungee jump.

It’s also hosts The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, Africa’s largest and most colourful cultural event. Every year for 11 days the town’s population doubles as 50,000 visitors flock to the region to witness the arts, crafts and entertainment.
