No stay in Athens is complete without exploring its ancient past. Begin by climbing to the Acropolis, home of the 5th-century BC Parthenon. Known for its whitewashed villages perched high on volcanic cliffs, this is one of the most recognisable and romantic islands in Greece. With three nights here, you’ll have time to explore lively towns, archaeological sites and striking black-sand beaches. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, Santorini’s dramatic caldera is its defining feature so admire its views with a cocktail in had, or unwind in the nearby hot springs. The main towns of Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia line the caldera’s edge, linked by a scenic walking path offering breathtaking views at every turn. Be sure to watch the sunset in Oia as its one of the most famous in the world (prepare for the crowds though, as its not only us that know about it).
