Description

Situated just a short drive from Cape Town amongst stunning mountains, with beautiful views and pretty Dutch architecture, the Winelands is a wonderful place to discover and to sip and savour your way through some of South Africa’s best wines. With the added advantage of delicious cuisine and incredibly pretty scenery, the Cape Winelands epitomises the very essence of relaxation and indulgence. The main towns situated in the Winelands region are Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl.

Stellenbosch, with its oak lined streets, is an exceptionally scenic town and is home to more than 100 wine cellars which offer daily tasting tours to sample the produce. In winter, usually at the end of January, Stellenbosch hosts a spectacular wine festival which includes a wine exhibition, music concerts and a harvest parade.

Franschoek, located about 75 km from Cape Town, is situated in a fertile valley and is home to a raft of world-class wines with top notch restaurants to match. The pretty town centre is lined with trees, boutiques and galleries.

Paarl is the largest town of the Winelands and is of course blessed with award-winning wine estates and fabulous food, it was also where the Afrikaans language was developed. If you are feeling energetic, visit the Paarl Mountain Reserve and climb to the top of Bretagne Rock, where you will be rewarded with fabulous views. The Meulwater Wild Flower Garden is a lovely place to relax and have a picnic.
