✈️ UK – Tokyo (4 nights): Fly from the UK to Tokyo, where you’ll be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel in one of the city’s traditional neighbourhoods. Over the next four days, you’ll discover both the ultra-modern and ancient sides of Japan’s capital, with a blend of guided tours and free time to explore at your own pace.
Start with a visit to Sensō-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, take a cruise along the Sumida River, and wander through tranquil shrines and landscaped gardens.
On your second day, enjoy sweeping city views from Tokyo Tower, visit the Imperial Palace, or if you’re an early riser, head to the famous Toyosu Fish Market. Explore Tokyo’s “Electric Town” Akihabara, browse manga and anime stores, and spend the evening in one of the city’s hip dining or entertainment districts.
With another day to explore, you could take a day trip on Japan’s excellent rail network, perhaps into the mountains of Nikko, home to World Heritage shrines and natural hot springs, or south to Kamakura, the ancient Samurai city with its scenic temples and dramatic coastline.
🚝 Tokyo – Kyoto (3 nights): Take the bullet train to Kyoto, the City of Ten Thousand Shrines, and immerse yourself in the ancient splendour of Japan’s former imperial capital. Visit the iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine, where over 10,000 vermilion torii gates line the mountain path, and the Sanjūsangen-dō Temple, famed for its 1,001 carved statues. Don’t miss the beautiful Chishaku-in Temple and its peaceful gardens.
Explore Nishiki Market, known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen” and the historic streets of Gion, home to the city’s elusive geisha. Visit the Zen temple of Ginkaku-ji, the Yasaka Shrine, and take part in a traditional tea ceremony before strolling through the scenic gardens of Kōdai-ji Temple.
🚝 Kyoto – Osaka (3 nights): Continue by train to Osaka, Japan’s lively and food-loving second city. Once the nation’s first capital, Osaka blends history, culture and modern innovation. Visit the magnificent 16th-century Osaka Castle, the 6th-century Shitennō-ji Temple, and one of the city’s fascinating museums. Enjoy panoramic views from the Floating Garden Observatory, then dive into the neon-lit streets of Dōtonbori for local delicacies such as takoyaki and okonomiyaki.
With its mix of modern architecture, friendly locals and an unbeatable dining scene, Osaka is the perfect finale to your Japanese adventure.
✈️ Osaka – UK: On your final day, make your way to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
