Barbados boasts secluded shores, luxury upscale hotels, and a fabulous mix of restaurants.  The island’s west coast is lined with some of the island’s most exclusive resorts and restaurants. While the south coast, with its livelier atmosphere, provides lots of opportunities for water sports and buzzing nightlife, particularly in St. Lawrence Gap.  Bridgetown, Barbados’ capital city, offers a mix of historic charm and modern attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Garrison area, once the military headquarters for the British Army.

St Lucia offers rugged rainforest-covered landscapes and exquisite Creole cuisine. The island is famous for its dramatic twin peaks, the Pitons, a UNESCO World Heritage site which has become an iconic symbol of St Lucia.  The Pitons’ breath-taking trails are popular with hikers and offer the chance to experience some incredible, panoramic views.   St. Lucia’s volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, and luxury resorts, blend natural beauty with high-end accommodation.  The island’s sulphur springs, and therapeutic mud baths also make it an ideal wellness escape.

Antigua has a more peaceful, unhurried atmosphere and is ideal for those looking for a more tranquil escape.  The island is a beach lover’s paradise and has 365 beaches – one for every day of the year!  Its crystal-clear waters and powdery white sands are ideal for sunbathing, swimming, water sports and complete R&R. Antigua is also home to Nelson’s Dockyard, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

If designer boutiques and high-end dining aren’t at the top of your priority list, you may wish to opt for a more ‘authentic’ Caribbean experience on one of the lesser developed, more low-key islands.  While stepping outside your hotel may offer fewer high-end comforts, you will get the true flavour of the Caribbean by embracing yourself in the local laid-back culture, sipping on a rum punch at a lively beach bar and exploring the colourful street markets.

Grenada is renowned for its lush landscapes, with rainforests, waterfalls, and pristine beaches, offering a truly tropical paradise.  Known as the ‘Spice Island,’ it is also famous for its plantations of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. The capital city, St. George, is a picturesque, lively harbour town, with markets, historic forts, and colourful colonial buildings that cling to the hillside. For those looking for adventure, you can head to the Grand Etang National Park, snorkel at the Underwater Sculpture Park, or take a dip in the refreshing waters of Annandale Falls.

St. Kitts and Nevis are two islands within the same country. This laid-back duo boasts breath-taking mountain backdrops, lush tropical rainforests, grand plantations, calm swimming waters, a scenic railway, and a wide range of outdoor activities. Nevis is especially renowned for its unparalleled serenity. This hidden gem with its pristine beaches, provides the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Guadeloupe is a unique blend of French and Caribbean influences, reflected in its vibrant culture, cuisine, and lifestyle. Whether you want to explore the lively nightlife of Grande-Terre or take on the adventure activities of Basse-Terre, there’s something for everyone. And with its lush landscapes, charming uncrowded beaches, and its volcanic terrain and waterfalls, it offers a true taste of the Caribbean.

Tobago offers a peaceful escape with its secluded beaches, lush rainforests, and vibrant coral reefs.  Some of the must-visit beaches include Pigeon Point, with its iconic thatched-roof jetty, and Englishman’s Bay with its crescent-shaped bay, lined with palm trees and lush vegetation and perfect conditions for swimming and snorkelling.   Tobago is also a must-visit for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts, and its culture is deeply rooted in Afro-Caribbean traditions, with plenty of music, dance, and festivals to be found all over the island.

In our opinion, almost all the Caribbean islands tick the box for a perfect romantic getaway, and the suitability for any couples’ destination is largely led by selecting the right accommodation. That said, these islands stand out for offering upmarket boutique hotels in exclusive settings.

Turks & Caicos is the most easily accessible and is a slice of paradise. Offering some of the most coveted hotels in the Caribbean, all with breath-taking seclusion and picture-perfect white sandy beaches as standard. Its upscale resorts, fine dining restaurants and laid-back atmosphere make it a great choice for any romantic getaway.

Martinique blends French and Caribbean cultures and is a foodie’s paradise, renowned for its gourmet restaurants and upmarket hotels. Its hidden coral islets, beautiful beaches and lush scenery adds to its appeal.

St. Barths with its sophisticated capital of Gustavia, glamorous mega-yacht marina and stunning scenery, exudes unparalleled Caribbean chic.  It combines elegant beachfront hotels and a vibrant nightlife, into a picture postcard Caribbean setting.

Anguilla is ideal if you’re looking for total seclusion and somewhere that is unashamedly exclusive, with intimate gourmet restaurants and luxe boutique hotels.  It’s a bit tricky to reach, but the trip is worth it, and we’d usually recommend combining it with another Caribbean Island or the US.

The Bahamas are a collection of islands, offering a range of holiday options.  Paradise Island is renowned for its high-end hotels, vibrant nightlife, and excellent dining options.   Nassau, the bustling capital, offers a vibrant blend of cultural and historical attractions with colourful markets and plenty of shops, cafes, and bars. For a more serene retreat, the Out Islands, including Exuma and Eleuthera, are perfect for those seeking tranquillity, natural beauty and stunning beaches. If you’re visiting Exuma, swimming with the famous pigs is a must.

The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory with three islands in total. Grand Cayman is the largest and where you’ll find Seven Mile Beach with its soft white sand and clear turquoise waters, George Town the lively capital, and Stingray City where you can interact with stingrays in their natural surroundings.   For something a little more peaceful, head to the smaller islands of Cayman Brac or Little Cayman.  Cayman Brac is known for its rugged terrain and natural beauty, with dramatic limestone cliffs, caves, and lush vegetation. While Little Cayman is the smallest and most remote of the three and is a haven for nature lovers and divers.

The US Virgin Islands (USVI) consist of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. St. Thomas is known for its vibrant nightlife and shopping, St. John boasts a pristine national park and serene beaches, and St. Croix blends rich historical sites with lush landscapes and a relaxed island atmosphere.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) provide an exclusive and intimate escape with a range of luxurious resorts.  Tortola features 5-star hotels, fine dining, serene beaches and a laid-back atmosphere.  Virgin Gorda is renowned for its unique geological formations such as The Baths (a collection of giant granite boulders) and Anegada offers total seclusion with its pristine, remote beauty.  Loblolly Bay and Cow Wreck Beach are particularly popular for their tranquil, turquoise waters and excellent snorkelling.

St. Martin/Saint Marteen is a truly unique place, divided in two by its French and Dutch heritage.
