What are the Seven Wonders of the World?
The New Seven Wonders of the World is a famous group of historic, man-made constructions chosen by a worldwide poll. The New Seven Wonders were established due to many of the Ancient Wonders of the World no longer being accessible, as they had been destroyed or lost to time. The New Seven Wonders represent cultural heritage around the globe and showcase the scale of human achievement found throughout history and society.
The New Seven Wonders of the World are:
1. The Great Wall of China, China
The Great Wall of China is the longest wall in the world, stretching over an incredible 6,000km from the east of China to the west, along the country’s historical northern borders. The Great Wall of China was originally built as a series of fortifications to protect the empire from raids and invasions coming from the Eurasian Steppe. Today, the Great Wall remains one of the most iconic landmarks in the world and is a popular hotspot for travellers visiting the area.
2. Petra, Jordan
Petra is an ancient city that can be found in present-day Jordan. Originally built in the 6th century BC, Petra was the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom. The site is known for its historic rock-cut architecture. Visitors to Petra can take in the stunning surrounding landscapes and explore the impressive monuments and structures that still exist today.
3. Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
Christ the Reemer is a statue depicting Jesus located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Designed to symbolise the love of God, it is one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks and is considered the largest Art Deco sculpture at an impressive 98 feet tall. Christ the Redeemer sits at the peak of the Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park and boasts breath-taking views of the city and ocean below.
4. Machu Picchu, Peru
Found in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan citadel dating back to the 15th century. Known as one of the best-preserved archaeological sites around today, the original intent of Machu Picchu is still up for debate, but it is commonly believed to have been a sacred religious site or a royal estate for the Inca Empire. Visitors today can learn about the Inca culture while enjoying mesmerising views of the Andes and the Urubamba River.
5. Chichén Itzá, Mexico
Chichén Itzá is an ancient Mayan City, found in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It was originally built around 600 AD. The main structure of the site is a large pyramid, El Castillo, with the city built around it. Chichén Itzá was a major political, economic and religious centre for the Mayans, and it remains a must-see for anyone interested in ancient civilisations.
6. The Colosseum, Italy
The Colosseum is an oval amphitheatre found in the centre of Rome in Italy. Originally a symbol of the Roman Empire, the Colosseum was used for gladiator contests, executions, dramas, and animal hunts. It remains the largest amphitheatre ever built and is renowned as one of the most spectacular feats of Roman architecture and engineering.
7. The Taj Mahal, India
The Taj Mahal is known as a monument of undying love. It is a white marble mausoleum in Agra, India, built in 1653 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Commonly recognised as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, the Taj Mahal is a wonderful place to explore India’s rich culture and history.
Brainteaser answers
So, how did you do with the brainteaser? You may have easily been able to pinpoint The Colosseum, The Great Wall of China, The Taj Mahal, Picchu, Petra, and Chichén Itzá – but did Christ the Redeemer evade you?
Christ the Redeemer was purposely trickier to find than the rest of the Wonders, but the eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted him disguised within the grey cliffs on the right-hand side of the image.

Have just booked with eShores for the second time. Gavin planned a three week Caribbean Island hopping trip earlier this year which was fantastic and very well organised. We decided to do the same thing again and look forward to our next trip in January. Would definitely recommend this company and use them again.

Eshore’s are an excellent company I can’t praise them enough, especially Adam who has been amazing. He was really patient as I’m indecisive and changed my mind several times. He persevered and found us a dream holiday and put together great itinerary covering every aspect of our journey . Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel the trip and Adam went above and beyond to recoup as much as possible for us. It was a huge help & felt very personal as if he were a friend. We have rescheduled the holiday & will use Eshores for all future trips’

I had never heard of eshores till I decided to plan a multi-stop holiday in Turkey some weeks ago. The decision to use eshores was based on a quick internet search for any help I could get with this. So, i wasnt really expecting much. As the planning was at relatively short notice...and we had never travelled to Turkey, I was pleasantly surprised at the support I had from Rachel at eshores who listened to what I wanted and was patient to go back and forth with me till I had the exact holiday I wanted (Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya). I always had a response with every query(and I had quite a few!!). The travel itself worked like a dream...both international and domestic flights were straightforward, but even more surprising was how reliable the multiple taxis to and fro airports were, even when picking up at 0330!! Overall, the experience has been very positive and I would be very happy to use the service again
