Auckland, situated on the North Island, is a thriving city with huge cultural diversity with a mix of Polynesian, European, Asian and Maori influences. Because of the growth the city has seen over the last few years, it has been nicknamed ‘Super City’ by its locals. It is the most populous region in New Zealand and is the largest Polynesian city in the world. With its two harbours, mix of sky scrapers and peaceful green parks plus great restaurants and bars, it is a wonderful place to sit back and soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Description

For one of the best views in the city, take a trip up the Sky Tower, a 328 metre building with 360 degree views. Also, take a trip over the Harbour Bridge where you can get a great view of the city, Sky Tower and harbour. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could try your hand a bridge-climbing or even a bungee jump off the bridge! For a quiet afternoon, take a picnic to the Auckland Domain with its pretty Winter Garden and acres of green space in the middle of the city. You will also find the Auckland Museum nearby with interesting early-Maori artefacts and a Maori show.

Driving and parking around Auckland is not the easiest, but fortunately, the public transport system is very good, so you will have no trouble hopping on and off buses, hiring a bike or taking a water taxi to visit the islands off the coast.
