Description

The city offers many popular tourist attractions. Take a top floor seat on one of the cities red busses and travel around the city browsing its hotspots. Check out the Apartheid Museum for a sobering reminder of the countries not too distant past, then venture to Constitution Hill which is one of the city’s top attractions and helps people understand the modern South Africa.

If the arts are more of interest, head to Arts on Main. What was once a derelict warehouse has been transformed in to an impressive cultural centre. It boasts art galleries and studios, restaurants and shops, as well as hosting regular events. There’s also the Wits Art Museum showcasing leading African art and the Johannesburg Art Gallery which hosts the largest art collection in Africa that are both worth exploring.

For a more relaxing afternoon, head to Mountain Sanctuary Park where you can hike one of the many amazing trails, then you can cool down by going for a swim in its natural rock pools.

Joziburg Lane is a must visit for the foodies. This food market, come deli, come arts and craft fair is set on the ground floor of a renovated art deco building / warehouse. This popular hang-out allows you to sample local street food and national delicacies, enjoy craft beers and fresh coffee, whilst enjoying the wonderful art that’s on offer. Alternatively, if fine dining is more your thing there are many superb restaurants to sample. The Living Room, set on a rooftop with a perfect view of the city skyline serves up some delicious tapas and is a perfect spot to watch the sunset with an exotic cocktail.

When it comes to wildlife, at Lion Park you can play with lion cubs and walk amongst the cheetahs. You can discover beautiful rare birds at Bird Garden Montecasino. The city has an impressive zoo or you can head out of the city on one of the many safaris on offer.
