Description

Driving the Garden Route is the most popular way to take in the region, as it’s one of the world’s most famous drives, and gives you the opportunity to take in the stunning scenery at your own pace, and control your own destiny. If you’d prefer not to drive though, there are plenty of organised tours.

The Garden route roughly starts at Mossel Bay in the west and ends at Port Elizabeth in the east, sweeping through the magnificent south-eastern coast of South Africa. It encompassed fabulous places to stay for a night or two. The main road through the Garden Route is the N2 highway and there are various different ‘routes’ to follow, so it is wise to do some preparation before you go.

Some of the highlights of the Garden Route include a visit to the Tsitsikamma National Park, where the most adventurous can try the world’s highest bungee jump and a canopy tour through the forest, taking in the breath-taking sights and sounds. For something a little more sedate, visit the Cango Caves at the foothills of the Swartberg range, with their impressive limestone formations. There’s endless wildlife experiences, like the Addo Elephant Park. Plettenburg Bay has a breath-taking beach to relax on, and the town of George is at the centre of the Garden Route and is home to some fabulous golf courses, great shopping and some pretty bays and beautiful beaches. Mossel Bay is also a pretty seaside town and Knysna is blessed with a perfect setting of lush forest and glorious beaches.
