Location: Speke Bay Lodge is sited on the south eastern shore of Lake Victoria, only 15km from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
Description: Explore local villages by canoe, ride the local terrain on a mountain bike, indulge in some fishing or bird watching – that is if you have time after being on safari! The lodge offers some fantastic activities, rarely provided elsewhere.
There is of course a well stocked bar and restaurant, where chefs will personally ask what you would like to eat, rather than pre-preparing dishes and you often have a choice of where you would like to eat, whether this be in the dining area or on your own private terrace.
The cuisine is as fresh as you can possible get – with fruit and vegetables locally sourced and fish straight from Lake Victoria.
The lodge’s gift shop sells crafts made by local women – helping to supplement their income.
Accommodation: There are eight thatched bungalows alongside the lake, all with a bathroom and French windows opening out onto a private verandah.
For those who prefer outdoor living, however, there are a small number of tents available, with sleeping and sitting areas.
Our Opinion: Speke Bay Lodge is a small, private yet wonderfully staffed resort, dedicated to providing guests with first class service, comfort and activities.
