Location: A 45 minute drive from Arusha, Klein’s Camp is set in the heart of the northern Serengeti, established on land belonging to the Maasai tribe. On the edge of the Kuka Hills, it overlooks the plains through which wildebeest and zebra migrate each year.
Description: Off the beaten track, Klein’s Camp covers almost 25,000 acres of Maasai land, dedicated solely to wildlife watching. Only 20 guests are permitted at any time to enhance the African experience for each individual guest – something which simply can’t be achieved at the larger resorts.
Rangers will lead you in day or evening safaris, either on foot or in 4x4 vehicles. Alternatively, visit with one of the Maasai families and learn directly about their culture, tradition and way of life – fees paid for this particular excursion going directly to that family.
Meals can be eaten in the dining room or out in the bush, meaning you don’t miss any of the action which may be unfolding in front of your eyes! There is also a bar and swimming pool, for guest use.
Accommodation: There are only 10 cottages at the camp, maintaining a feeling of intimacy and personal service. Each has an ensuite bathroom, private verandah and guest area, overlooking the bush below.
Our Opinion: For that personal experience, Klein’s Camp simply can’t be beaten. Up close and personal with the wildlife, you will be exhilarated and humbled at the same time. Time spent with a Maasai family is both educational and enjoyable – a once in a lifetime opportunity.
