Location: Arusha is set within Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, around 50km from Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Description: The resort is a small, luxury coffee lodge, ideal for a short stay and is used predominantly as a base by tourists taking part in safaris and investigating the area surrounding the large town of Arusha.
Constructed around the farm’s original plantation buildings, the lodge retains an air of colonialism, history evident in its features.
As most stays are over one or two nights, facilities are not extensive. However, the staff do ensure that you enjoy your time at the resort, organising African buffets, gala dinners and barbeques. There is an outdoor swimming pool, too.
The lounge has a welcoming open fire, leading to the bar which opens out onto the gardens.
The dining room overlooks the lodge’s feature pond and features both pizzas and a la carte.
Accommodation: There are 18 plantation houses, all with private verandah and fireplace. Beds are twin or double and all have mosquito netting whilst bathrooms have both bathtub and shower. A minibar and tea/coffee making facilities are also available.
Our Opinion: Arusha Coffee Lodge provides a warm welcome after a hard day’s safari out on the plains. Pleasing and unpretentious, it isn’t a resort catering for long term holiday makers but makes a delightful place to stay over. It comes highly recommended.
