Location: Okaukuejo Rest Camp is situated just over 400km from Windhoek, close to the southern entrance of Etosha National Park.
Description: The oldest and largest rest camp in the area, dating back to 1957, Okaukuejo was completely refurbished in 2007 and now is one of the principal tourist resorts for this region.
The jewel in the crown for the resort is its large, floodlit waterhole, which attracts lions, antelopes, elephants and the endangered black rhino.
Okaukuejo is certainly well equipped, having a bar, restaurant, gift shop, post office, fuel station and swimming pool, clinic and tourist centre.
Although most guests prefer to use the camp as a stopover on their self-drive holiday, Okaukuejo does in fact run its own guided game drive.
Accommodation: There are 104 chalets based throughout the camp, varying in standard but all having fridges and tea/coffee making facilities. In addition, for those who want to make the most of outdoor living, there are 26 camping pitches, with shower/toilet block and outdoor cooking facilities.
Our Opinion: A resort catering to all budgets, Okaukuejo makes an ideal resting place for one or two days - a haven for weary travellers!
