Location: One of the Quirimbas Archipelago islands, Matemo is just eight kilometres long and three kilometres wide, situated off the north east coast of Mozambique. It is accessible via a twenty minute flight from Pemba.
Description: For stylish island living, you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere as ideal as Matemo.
All manner of watersports are available, including diving, fishing and snorkelling, wake and knee boarding. Ibo Island is just a twenty minute boat ride away and cricket, volleyball and tennis on the beach are of course always popular.
Within the resort itself, there is a swimming pool and mobile masseuse, offering soothing massage and beauty treatments, either in the comfort and privacy of your own chalet or on the beach.
There is a bar and dining area, although guests are also able to dine on the beach, should they prefer. Children are welcomed and are often delighted with the beach barbeques sometimes held on an evening.
Accommodation: There are 24 thatched chalets situated right on the beach, only yards from the sea. Each chalet has ensuite bathroom, outside private shower and deck hammocks, so you can lazily sip a cocktail whilst watching the sun go down – absolutely perfect.
Our Opinion: Although smaller in relation to many other accommodation providers, with less available facilities within the resort itself, Matemo Island is ideal for couples and families alike. It caters for everyone, regardless of age or energy level, and although it is small in size, it’s certainly big on service.
