Weather
With only two seasons in the year southern Thailand has temperatures ranging between an average of 23°C and 33°C. The hottest months are between November to April and the rainy season is from May to October. There is always a breeze blowing and even in the wetter months you will still see lots of sunshine.

Whether it is sightseeing, shopping, sporting activities or even cooking, Krabi has something to offer everyone. With world famous beaches and over 80 smaller islands, it really is a great place to relax. Krabi has many attractions including waterfalls, caves and the 75 million-year-old Shell Cemetery, but if you are more the sporty type you can play a round of golf, go mountain biking or rock climbing.
Surrounding Krabi is warm costal waters with more than 32 dive sites, which makes it a perfect resort for snorkelling and scuba diving.

The traditional Thai food is not only cheap in Krabi but it is fresh and tasty and served with pride. In the tourist centre of Ao Nang, you will be spoilt for other choices of restaurants to dine in, from Japanese to the English Pub food. To experience some local nightlife, head in to Krabi Town where you will find hundreds of karaoke bars , live music and few 'nightclubs' playing Thai pop music, often with a stage show. Try the old Chao Fah Pier for some more westernized music. Ao nang Beach is the place to party till late or go that little bit longer, Ton Sai beach hosts regular all-night beach parties for the full moon.

Local Flavours
Traditional Thai food is fresh, tasty and spicy. Throughout southern Thailand fresh seafood is served in a unique southern Thai style, they like to use plenty of herbs, garlic, chilli, lemon and lime. You can eat out for very little money, the average main course is approx £3 - £5 and the local beer is Singha and costs about 30 - 50 pence a bottle in most places.

Shopping in Thailand is mainly around the local stalls and markets, offering hand crafts, woven silk and leather goods.
History
The Kingdom of Thailand was known until 1939 as ‘Siam’, a mysterious land full of wonder and amazement founded in the 13th century. The modern duty name for the Siamese people is ‘Thai’ meaning ‘Free’. Thailand has a colourful history and its people ancestry can be traced back to southern China when the Mongol hordes conquered the Chinese and the people migrated south. Thailand has a strong Buddhist influence which can be seen amongst the many breathtaking temples. The teachings of Buddha go some way to experiencing the culture of these laid back, friendly people.

Krabi became a province around 1872 and in 1875 King Rama V an order for it to be ruled by Bangkok. Relatively new to tourism, the area is being carefully developed with a wide range of places to stay from small bungalows to luxury hotels.
Size & Location
Krabi is divided in to 8 districts covering an area of 4,709 sq.km , the province on the Andaman seaboard is 814 kilometres south of Bangkok. It adjoins Phang-nga on the North; Trang on the South; Trang and Nakhon Si Thammarat on the East; and Phang-nga on the West. It has a polulation of about 395,665.
