Location: Cove Retreat is situated around 12km from Diani beach, around an hour and a half from Mombasa’s airport.
Description: For the ultimate in relaxation and seclusion, you really can do no better than Cove Retreat. As the name suggests, it is nestled in its own private cove among the baobab trees, looking out over the Indian Ocean.
Wildlife mixes with the guests, completely undisturbed and you may well see eagles or monkeys as they go about their business.
A mixture of shopping (at Diani, a short taxi ride away), day excursions, safaris, watersports and community activities are available, through Cove Retreat’s proactive programme of sympathetic and constructive integration with the local people. Let the Digo people guide you around their villages, forests and reefs. You may also wish to experience canoeing or kayaking with them.
The Retreat has an Arabian-style restaurant, giving superb views of its infinity pool and the Indian Ocean as you dine. You can even swim up to the bar! The food is seasonal, all purchased locally and delicious.
Accommodation: If you’re looking for something special, the luxury tree houses at the Cove Retreat are guaranteed to make an impression! Each of the treehouses is set three metres up against a baobab tree and cover an area of approximately 85 square metres. Forget the treehouses you played in as a child – these are truly the grown up version, including an air conditioned bedroom with four poster bed, fully stocked bar, a shielded spa whirlpool bath on your wooden deck, sun tanning and dining area. If that wasn’t enough, you will even be provided with your very own butler!
Our Opinion: The luxury tree houses at Cove Retreat are a favourite haunt of honeymooners, with many couples combining their wedding and their honeymoon in the area. For a romantic, luxurious getaway, you really can’t beat this resort.
