Caribbean Boutique Islands

The Caribbean boutique islands of St Kitts, Nevis, St Martin, St Barthelemy (St Barts), Grand Cayman, British Virgin Islands, St Vincent & Grenadines are all located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and north America and east of central America.
So-called “boutique” islands due to their relatively small size, this group of islands are nevertheless diverse and picturesque – the ultimate in hideaway destinations. Indeed, The Bath Hotel on Nevis, was the first hotel to open in the Caribbean, with tourists flocking to visit the nearby hot springs.
The tourism industry did not really flourish here until the 1980s, meaning that many beautiful areas have been left unspoilt.

Weather
Although the weather differs between islands, temperatures are generally warm (usually around 70-80°), although sea breezes from the north east will make some coastal areas feel slightly cooler, although certainly not uncomfortable.
There is little temperature variation between seasons, with the hurricane season typically arriving in June and fading in November, accompanied by a heavier than usual rainfall. Hurricanes are rarely severe however, and usually fail to cause any significant damage.
Top Attractions
• Stingray City, Cayman Islands. Off the northwest coast of Grand Cayman, dozens of relatively harmless stingray swim in the deep, clear waters. A firm favourite of divers.

• The Baths, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. Likened to Stonehenge, these gigantic monoliths form a multitude of caves and small pools on the edge of the coastline, inviting you to come and explore.

• Mount Liamuiga, St Kitts. This volcano, situated on the north east coast of the island, has lain dormant since 1692. The difficult trail to the volcano will take you through some lush rainforest.

Local Flavours
Unsurprisingly, Caribbean food is an eclectic mix of American, British, French, Dutch, Indian, African and Chinese influences.
The islands have their own version of “comfort food” and certainly enjoying eating. Goat stew is particularly popular in St Kitts and Nevis and “jerk” chicken can be found almost anywhere.
