Cape Verde Holidays
The Islands of Cape Verde, 10 individual islands 1000km south of the Canary Islands that have virtually no rain. No two islands are the same and currently there are 4 of the 10 islands that are available as holiday destinations. A tropical climate and fantastic white beaches make this ideal for holidaymakers who want something new. Tourism is very much in its infancy here so be prepared to enjoy the charm of these islands and the tropical life of its inhabitants.
Each of the 4 islands has its own appeal and varied landscapes so whether you want a beach holiday, sightseeing tours, watersports or fancy exploring new unchartered territory there is something for everybody on these islands.
There are four main islands to visit, Sal is where the international airport is situated therefore the most developed island in the resort. It has the best range of accommodation and vibrant nightlife contrasting with relaxing beaches and a wide range of activities that provide a good base to start your holiday. Boa Vista has amazing sand dunes and beaches were the Loggerhead turtles nest. With plenty of wrecks to explore under the crystal clear waters, the tranquil atmosphere will definitely take your breath away. The other islands of Santiago and Sao Vincente are great for hiking and are greener bringing to them a variety of flora and fauna that contrast against the white beaches and volcanic peaks.

Weather
The climate of these islands as there is virtually no rain make Cape Verde an all year round destination. The average temperature stays above 24 degrees C and constant cooling breezes keeps down the humidity.
By Day
There are plenty of excursions available and opportunities to visit all the different islands that Cape Verde has to offer, from birdwatching and fishing to mountain biking and hiking. That is if you can tear yourself away from the beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
By night
The night scene depends on the island you are on. Sal offers the largest variety in Santa Maria, the main tourist area. Sao Vicente and Santiago also have a fairly vibrant choice of restaurants and bars in the capital towns and Boa Vista is the quietest and most tranquil island.
Events
Mid February on Sao Vicente, you will enjoy the Exotic Carnival not as big as the one in Brazil but fun all the same.

17th - 19th May Gamboa Festival held in the bay of San Fransisco Santiago. The biggest music festival within the islands.

June/ July is Tabanka, a celebration of the liberation of slaves. This is in Assomanda on the island of Santiago.

4th July on Boa Vista is Municipality Day. Processions, swimming and horse racing topped off with a public ball.

Full moon in August on Sao Vicente plays host to a beach festival that attracts musicians from over all the islands.

15th August on Sal is Our Lady of Pity day. There is Mass, processions, swimming contest and a music festival on the beach.

15th September on Sal is Municipality Day were they celebrate with a music festival.

Local Flavours
Your taste buds will tingle when you smell and taste the exotic mixture of Brazilian, African and Portuguese cuisine. The delicacy of the islands is marinated tuna or dried cod washed down with Mancome wine. The main centre usually the airport cities have the best restaurants ranging from tapas bars to pizzerias. There is plenty to choose from due to the range of fresh seafood and beautiful spices all to hand on these magical islands.
