Bangkok City Breaks Bangkok is warm all year round, temperature raising to 40C between the months of March - May. December - February are the coolest months yet still sunny and temperatures raise to 28C. May - November are the wettest months, but still plenty of sunshine. After you have taken in some tradtional Thai cuisine you can experience the entertinment this city has to offer, from classical Thai dancing to exotic go go bars. See live shows from the Dolphins and Sealions and you can even hold a baby tiger. Traditional Thai food is fresh, tasty and spicy. Throughout southern Thailand fresh seafood is served in a unique southern Thai style, they like to use plenty of herbs, garlic, chilli, lemon and lime. You can eat out for very little money, the average main course is approx £3 - £5. The local beer is Singha and costs about 30 - 50 pence a bottle in most places. Shopping is mainly around the bustling open air market stalls but there are also the western style departments stores. Traditional handcrafts and woven Thai silk garments are stunning, they make great gifts and souvenirs. Other bargains to pick up are their own designed clothing, jewellery and leather goods. In 1932 Bangkok was a province on the east bank known as Krung Thep, (the full name has 62 syllables and is known as the longest city name in the world), on the west bank was the province known as Thon buri, in 1971 the two provinces were merged and became internationally known as Bangkok. In the early 1800s Bangkok remained a quiet place, covered in lush vegetation and transportation was via waterways. The Vietnam War marked a major period of change as money poured into the country from abroad. In the years 1868 – 1910, when the nation was ruled by King Rama V, the capital underwent development and was brought in to modernization. Now a bustling city of transportation, administration, business, communication, education and entertainment! Bangkok is located in the centre of the country of Thailand, close to the Gulf of Thailand. The area of Bangkok is approx 1,568.737 sq.km, a bustling city with a population of nearly 8 million.
